When a man with a questionable past uses his antiques shop as a front for stolen gems, his young shop assistant begins blackmailing him, which results in murder and sparks a police inquiry.

Demobilised soldiers Ted and Dave come home to Britain after World War II, where Ted starts working as a taxi driver and Dave joins the mob. Dave offers to hire his friend Ted, who works hard for his money, while enjoying his lifestyle and the easy money. Ted declines, and Dave fights with his gang boss over money as a result. While Ted is eating lunch, Dave is shot by a mafia goon and flees, hiding in Ted's taxi. Ted eventually comes across his friend's dead body inside the cab. Scotland Yard launches an investigation in light of Dave's connections to the criminal underworld. Gregory chooses to have Ted killed because the mob boss thinks that cab driver Ted somehow knows the details of his pal Dave's horrific death.

Ted, on the other hand, makes the independent decision to look into his friend Dave's mysterious death.

The Huggett family attends a summer camp where they become embroiled with dishonest card players, a murderer on the run, and a young lady who is pregnant and her boyfriend who have gone missing.

The Huggetts are a fictional family that appears in several British films made by Gainsborough Pictures and released in the late 1940s. Diana would appear in three Huggetts productions.
